Rocky Mountain Bikes
The Rocky Mountain Development Centre is nestled at the foot of Vancouver's North Shore mountains, home to some of the world's most diverse and rugged terrain. They’ve been developing high-performance mountain bikes there since 1981.
Many things have changed since they first opened their doors, but their product developers, engineers, marketing nerds, salespeople, and athletes are still a tight-knit crew that works and plays in these mountains. From local trail days to backcountry adventures, they’re all here for a reason: they love mountain biking.
THE HISTORY
Grayson Bain founded Rocky Mountain Bicycles in 1981 with Jacob Heilbron and Sam Mak. They operated out of the West Point Cycles warehouse, distributing Ritchey mountain bikes to a handful of shops across Canada. By 1984, the company had hired Derek Bailey and was brass fillet brazing its own frames at a facility on the Fraser River.
SLAYER
For those looking for the ultimate big mountain machine, Rocky Mountain created the Slayer. With 170mm or 180mm of rear travel and a headtube angle that mimics many downhill bikes, the Slayer is designed to plow through the rowdiest rock gardens and drop off the largest features at the bike park. The new slayer features improved small bump sensitivity, more progression, and a longer reach enabling you to ride harder than ever before. Rocky Mountain led the original freeride movement and the Slayer continues that legacy.

INSTINCT
The Instinct is Rocky Mountain's most versatile trail bike. With 29” wheels, 140mm of rear travel, and modern geometry, the Instinct is perfect for epic all day rides. On your local trails, the Instinct’s ride quality is second to none. Incredible small bump sensitivity and Rocky Mountain's RIDE 9 adjustment system allows the Instinct to be ready for anything you throw at it. As the center piece of Rocky Mountain’s lineup, the Instinct is both stable and aggressive while maintaining a fun and playful nature that is hard to find on a 29” platform.

Altitude
The Rocky Mountain Altitude is the true definition of an aggressive trail bike. It’s a fun do-it-all bike that loves to explore while also charging hard. Whether you are riding your local single track or descending steep lines at a bike park, the Altitude can confidently navigate any section of trail. With short chain-stays, 27.5” wheels and 150mm of rear travel, the bike strikes the perfect balance between playful and aggressive. The Altitude also uses Rocky Mountain's RIDE 9 adjustment system allowing the rider to tailor the bike to their riding style and terrain.

THUNDERBOLT
Rocky Mountain mistakenly called this bike the Thunderbolt, when it should really be called the “Fun”derbolt. With 140mm of rear travel, short chain-stays, and 27.5” wheels, the Thunderbolt is as playful as it gets. The bike is quick and nimble regardless if you are moving up or down the trail. If all-out speed isn’t your primary goal, but instead you love enjoying every random cool feature on the trail, the Thunderbolt is calling your name. The Thunderbolt also uses Rocky Mountain's RIDE 9 adjustment system allowing the rider to tailor the bike to their riding style and terrain.
